Baseball Hosts Mississippi College for GSC Weekend Series

HUNTSVILLE | The UAH baseball team is set to host Gulf South Conference opponent Mississippi College this weekend in a three-game series beginning at noon on Friday in a doubleheader, followed by a single game on Saturday at noon.

Admission to all UAH baseball regular season home games is free this season, courtesy of Alabama Credit Union.

The Chargers are returning to action after winning a midweek game against UT Southern on Tuesday afternoon 11-8. UAH is currently 18-20 (8-16 GSC), while MC visits Charger Park with a 24-15 (15-9 GSC) record. 

MC and UAH represent the top two run-scoring teams in the GSC at 307 and 306 total runs scored. Additionally, the two teams rank second and third in home runs, as the Choctaws have hit 50 home runs and the Chargers have tallied 45 homers. 

Brock Butler is coming off of a 9-for-15 week at the plate where he hit five home runs and posted a 1.800 slugging percentage which earned him GSC Player of the Week and NCBWA South Region Player of the Week. 

Butler additionally ranks atop the GSC in home runs with 15 total on the season. He also has at least one hit in nine of the last 10 games for the Chargers. 

MC arrives in Huntsville after a 15-3 midweek loss to Henderson State following a 2-1 series victory over Christian Brothers last weekend. 

The Choctaws are led at the plate by Korey Cooper and Bryce LaRocca who each hold batting averages over .350 and 11 home runs apiece. LaRocca leads the team in RBI with 48 this season, while Cooper has tallied 44. 

On the mound, MC is led by Holland Townes, who holds a 2-5 record as a starting pitcher with a 5.46 ERA. Townes has pitched a team-leading 56 innings this season and struck out 62 batters. 

Following the weekend, UAH will travel to Young Harris, Georgia, to take on Young Harris in a midweek game on Tuesday.
