Baseball Prepped for GSC Home Series Against Union

HUNTSVILLE | The UAH baseball team is set to host Gulf South Conference opponent Union this weekend in a three-game series originally scheduled to be played in Jackson, Tennessee. Friday's doubleheader begins at noon, while Saturday is a noon first-pitch.

The series shifted to Charger Park due to the weather forecast in Jackson.

The Chargers are returning to action after winning a pair of midweek games against No. 16 Carson-Newman 8-6 and Miles 14-1. UAH is currently 16-18 (7-14 GSC), while Union comes in with a 13-20 (7-13 GSC). 

The Blue & White have scored seven or more runs in four of their last five games and have at least one home run in four of the last five games. 

JC Wilburn leads the Chargers in batting average this season at .388 and holds the highest on-base percentage at .486. Brock Butler has been on a tear at the plate as he has five home runs in the last five games along with 16 RBI in the last six games.

Butler additionally ranks second in the GSC in home runs with 12 total on the season.

Colin Patterson has been a mainstay in the Charger starting rotation on the mound with a 6.50 ERA and a 2-4 record as a starter. He has struck out a team-high 50 opposing batters this season.

Cory Hagood has the best ERA among qualifying pitchers with a 4.55 mark and a 3-1 record. The senior has most often served in a closing role for UAH with four saves on the year.

Union arrives in Huntsville after winning a road series against West Alabama last weekend. The Bulldogs swept a Friday doubleheader 6-2 and 5-4 before dropping the final game of the series 4-0. 

Union is led by Carson Chavies at the plate with a .405 batting average and 31 RBI. Chavies holds a team-high .485 on-base percentage as well. Eli Snelson leads the Union pitching staff with 50.2 innings pitched and a 6.93 ERA this season. 

UAH will play host in a midweek matchup against UT Southern on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Charger Park.
