BIRMINGHAM,, Ala. | UAH softball senior Megan Shurtz delivered a dominant weekend in the circle, helping lead the Chargers to a pair of wins behind two scoreless outings.
A native of Madison, Alabama, Shurtz appeared in two games, earning the start in both contests and totaling 12.0 innings of work. She allowed just five hits while holding her opponents without a run, finishing the weekend with 15 strikeouts and no walks.
Shurtz opened the weekend on Feb. 7 at Palm Beach Atlantic, throwing 5.0 shutout innings in an 8–0 victory. She allowed just three hits while striking out seven batters on 76 pitches to earn the win.
She followed that performance with a complete-game against Young Harris on Feb. 8, going 7.0 innings and allowing only two hits in a 1–0 Chargers win. Shurtz struck out eight and faced just 23 batters.
Through two appearances, Shurtz owns a 0.00 ERA on the weekend and has helped anchor a Chargers pitching staff that did not allow a run in either game.
The Chargers returns home to Charger Park on Friday, Feb. 13, to open play at the Sam Baldwin Memorial Invitational with an 11 a.m. doubleheader against Shorter.
