HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | Baseball returns to Charger Park this weekend to host the Lee Flames in their second Gulf South Conference series of the season. Admission to all regular season home games at Charger Park is free this season courtesy of Alabama Credit Union.
UAH enters the weekend 4-6 overall and 3-0 in GSC play after sweeping Christian Brothers to open conference action.
The Chargers have been productive offensively, ranking second in the GSC with 27 stolen bases, third in hits (97) and runs scored (85), and fourth in team batting average. UAH also features three of the conference's top five hitters. Trey Greenwell leads the way with a .500 average, followed by Caleb Mahan at .480 and Seth Staggs at .440.
CJ Carson continues to set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading the GSC and ranking eighth nationally in walks with 14.
On the mound, UAH has also found early-season success. Starting pitcher Cole Loftis leads the GSC with a 0.64 ERA, while fellow starter Tyler Smith has limited opposing hitters to a .179 batting average.
Lee enters the series 7-3 overall and 0-3 in conference play. The Flames bring one of the top pitching staffs in the GSC, ranking second in team ERA (3.80) and allowing just 6.7 hits per game, also second-best in the conference.
Evan Bloomer anchors the Lee rotation, owning the seventh-best ERA in the GSC at 1.89. He has allowed just four runs in 19 innings pitched and ranks eighth in the conference with 16 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .182 batting average.
The series begins Friday at 3 p.m. CT at Charger Park. Saturday's doubleheader will start at noon CT, with the finale scheduled to begin 30 minutes following the conclusion of Game 2.
The weekend matchup presents an early test in conference play as both teams look to establish momentum in the GSC standings.
