Baseball Set for Home Opener Against Drury in Three-Game Weekend Series

2/5/2026 1:18:00 PM

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | UAH Chargers baseball returns home this weekend for its 2026 home opener, welcoming the Drury Panthers baseball to Charger Park for a three-game non-conference series.

The weekend opens with a Friday doubleheader beginning at noon, followed by a single game on Saturday morning at 11 a.m., marking the first opportunity for Charger fans to see the team at home this season. Admission to all regular season home games at Charger Park is free this season courtesy of Alabama Credit Union.

The Chargers enter the weekend at 1–2 after opening the season at the 2026 Houston Winter Invitational, played at Daikin Park, home of the Houston Astros. While the win-loss column showed some early-season growing pains, UAH flashed plenty of offensive promise against a strong opening slate.

This weekend marks the first action of the season for Drury, which opens its 2026 campaign after finishing 33–23 a year ago in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Panthers arrive in Huntsville looking to set an early tone, while the Chargers aim to protect home turf and build momentum.

UAH's lineup showed encouraging signs at the plate in Houston, with several hitters posting eye-catching opening-weekend numbers.

Sean Lapinskes leads the way, batting .455 with a 1.227 OPS and five RBIs through the first weekend. Gunnar Waldrop has been a catalyst on the bases, hitting .333 with a .933 OPS while swiping four bags. From the leadoff spot, CJ Carson has been electric, batting .429 with a 1.406 OPS and six stolen bases, constantly pressuring opposing defenses. Luke Songy has added extra-base pop, hitting .333 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs.

UAH is expected to roll out a three-man starting rotation across the series, with Cole Loftis, Tyler Smith, and Zach Murphy slated to take the ball. The trio will look to establish rhythm early and give the Chargers a chance to control the tempo in all three games.

With a new season underway, an energized home crowd, and early offensive sparks already showing, the weekend series against Drury offers UAH a chance to turn opening-week lessons into home-field results.
