HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | The UAH baseball team returns to Gulf South Conference play this weekend, hosting Delta State for a three-game series at Charger Park beginning Friday afternoon.
First pitch for the series opener is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday, while the final two games will be played as part of a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m.
Admission to all regular season home games at Charger Park is free this season courtesy of Alabama Credit Union.
The Chargers enter the weekend on a five-game winning streak, improving to 13-15 overall and 9-9 in GSC play, currently sitting in seventh place in the conference standings.
UAH is coming off a high-scoring 17-13 victory over Tuskegee in midweek action at Charger Park.
Offensively, the Chargers have been among the most productive teams in the Gulf South Conference. UAH ranks third in batting average (.313), second in runs scored (238), and second in hits (300). The Chargers have also been aggressive on the base paths, ranking third in the conference with 53 stolen bases.
UAH features three of the top hitters in the conference. Caleb Mahan leads the team with a .414 batting average, ranking among the GSC's top 10, while also posting a 1.011 OPS. Seth Staggs (.378) and Hugh Windle (.365) also rank among the league's top hitters.
Delta State enters the series with a 15-13 overall record and a 10-8 mark in conference play, sitting just ahead of UAH in the standings in sixth place. The Statesmen come into the weekend on a three-game losing streak.
As a team, Delta State is batting .278, ranking sixth in the GSC, and has scored 196 runs, also sixth in the conference. The Statesmen have been active on the base paths, ranking second in the GSC with 63 stolen bases.
Defensively, Delta State has been one of the more consistent teams in the conference, committing just 33 errors, the fourth fewest in the GSC, and allowing only 25 stolen bases, the fewest in the league.
The Statesmen are led offensively by Tucker Jones, who is batting .333 with a .911 OPS, along with six home runs and 32 RBIs, the second-highest total in the conference. Jones also leads the GSC with 20 stolen bases.
