HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | Baseball returns to Charger Park this weekend to host Trevecca Nazarene in a three-game Gulf South Conference series that will serve as the final home stand of the regular season.
The series will begin with a doubleheader on Friday, with first pitch for Game 1 scheduled for 2 p.m., followed by Game 2 approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the opener. The series finale is set for Saturday at 11 a.m., with Senior Day festivities taking place prior to first pitch.
Admission to all regular season home games at Charger Park is free this season courtesy of Alabama Credit Union.
UAH enters the weekend with a 17-21 overall record and a 12-15 mark in GSC play, currently sitting in eighth place in the conference standings. Only the top eight teams advance to next month's GSC Baseball Championship in Oxford, the Chargers currently hold a one-game lead over ninth-place Valdosta State.
The Chargers are coming off a strong showing on the road, where they took two of three games at Mississippi College.
Freshman Seth Staggs headlines UAH's recent momentum after being named GSC Freshman of the Week. Staggs was dominant at the plate last weekend, going 8-for-10 with four doubles, five runs scored, one RBI, and a walk, including a 4-for-4 performance.. He has now extended his hitting streak to 23 games.
On the season, Staggs is batting .419, ranking second in the GSC, while also sitting third in doubles (13) and fifth in OPS (1.101). He has also scored 41 runs, eighth-most in the conference.
Caleb Mahan continues to swing a consistent bat, ranking eighth in the GSC with a .370 average, while CJ Carson has been a steady presence at the plate, ranking fourth in the conference with 30 walks.
As a team the Chargers are hitting .314, the second-best team average in the league, while also ranking second in runs scored (324). UAH has struck out just 243 times, the second-fewest in the conference, and ranks third in stolen bases with 70.
Trevecca Nazarene enters the series with a 28-14 overall record and an 18-9 conference mark, having already secured a spot in the upcoming GSC Tournament.
