Chargers Travel To Clayton State

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The UAH men's soccer team will close out play against non-conference opponents on Wednesday as it travels to Morrow, Ga., to take on Clayton State for a 6:30 p.m. CDT showdown. The Chargers enter the game with a 9-4 mark while the Lakers sit at 8-6.

Featuring the nation's 13th-best scoring offense, the Blue and White are led by a pair of first-year players in the form of All-American candidates Kyle Simmons and Felix Hjalmarsson.

A Huntsville native, Simmons is ranked in the top 25 nationally in four of the six offensive categories including being 13th in points per game with 2.0. Additionally, he is 19th in goals per game (0.85), 23rd in total points (26) and 24th in total goals (11). Hjalamarsson is also among the nation's offensive leaders as he sits 27th with 0.75 goals per contest and 32nd in points per game (1.67).

Behind the senior leadership of Jarrod Muggleton and Tim Mead, the Chargers have also turned in some strong defensive performances as the group has tied the school record with seven clean sheets on the season which has the team ranked 13th in the country in shutout percentage (0.54).

The Lakers enter the contest in a bit of a rough stretch having lost four of their last five contests including two in a row at home.

Kenny Mena paces Wednesday's hosts with 19 points on the strength of eight goals and three assists, and Brian Garcia has seen most of the time in goal as he has recorded 38 saves while allowing 15 scores.

The two teams have met only twice, a pair of 3-0 decisions for Clayton State in 2009 and 2010.
