LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Back on the pitch for the first time since its biggest loss of the season, the UAH men's soccer team bounced back with a 2-0 victory over Covenant on Saturday evening to pick up its first road win of the year. The Chargers move to 5-3 on the season with the victory while Covenant falls to 2-5-2.
The game was scoreless through much of the first half, but the Chargers would strike late in the frame as
Ragnar Gunnarsson connected with
Cyprin Kanneh who buried it to put UAH up 1-0 at the 41st minute. The goal is the first for Kanneh while Gunnarsson picks up his third assist of the year to give him seven points on the season.
Turning up the pressure after falling behind, the Scots registered all four of their shots on goal in the second half as they attempted to pull back even with the Blue and White, but they were unsuccessful in their efforts. Making them pay for being unable to strike,
Kyle Simmons continued his torrid ways as he scored late to seal the contest.
The freshman's eighth goal of the season came in the 85th minute.
In his second start of the season,
Jordan Steelman posted the clean sheet as he stopped the four shots from the hosts in moving to 2-0. John Eger earned the loss for the Scots. In total shots, Covenant held a slim 11-10 advantage as both teams had four that reached the target.
The Chargers will return to Huntsville for their next contest as they open Gulf South Conference play with Harding on Friday, Oct. 7. Kick-off is slated for 3:30 p.m.
