No. 13 Chargers Fall In Overtime

Box Score CARROLLTON, Ga. – The No. 13 UAH men's basketball team fell in a heartbreaker on Saturday, dropping an 82-79 in overtime at No. 25 West Georgia. The setback puts the Chargers at 9-3 (1-1 Gulf South Conference), while UWG improves to 14-2 (1-1 GSC).

The Blue and White trailed 66-65 with just under two minutes left in the contest, but consecutive lay-ups from Xavier Baldwin and Jaime Smith down the stretch put the visitors up by three with only 30 seconds left in the ballgame.

Keeping his squad in the contest, Taylor Cochran was able to make a 3-point try fall to tie the contest with time running down, and the Chargers were unable to do anything with the few seconds that were left to setup the overtime period.

After Zane Campbell hit a 3-pointer to put UAH on top to open the extra period, the Wolves scored the next nine points to open up a six-point advantage that ended up being too big for the Chargers to erase though they did pull within two on a pair of occasions in the final moments.

The fact that the Blue and White made it to an overtime session was a strong accomplishment on this day as the squad erased a large deficit in the opening half.

The Chargers scored the game's first six points, but the hosts took complete control at that point as they ripped off a 24-2 run to hold a 24-8 advantage with 10:44 remaining in the opening half.

An impressive run that included three consecutive treys from Smith allowed the Blue and White to end the half on a 29-11 run to go into halftime holding a 37-35 lead.

Smith finished the game as the team's leading scorer as he registered 24 points, and he was joined by four others in double figures including Campbell who notched 20 and also grabbed eight rebounds. Srdjan Boskovic scored 11 while adding nine rebounds, and Baldwin also recorded 11 points.

Josh Magette tallied 10 points to go along with seven assists while he matched Boskovic's team-best nine boards.

UAH shot the ball more than 10 percentage points better than West Georgia as the Chargers shot 53.6 percent from the floor compared to 43.3 percent for the hosts. The Chargers also won the battle on the glass by a 41-28 clip.

The Chargers will return to action on Monday when they take a step out of conference play to face Oakland City. Fans are reminded that the game has been moved up and is slated to start at 3 p.m.
