No. 13 Chargers Take Afternoon Showdown 92-64

Box Score
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The No. 13 UAH men's basketball team bounced back from Saturday's tough overtime loss in impressive fashion on Monday, defeating visiting Oakland City by a 92-64 score. The triumph pushes the Chargers to 10-3 on the season, while the visitors fall to 10-5.

In the victory, senior guard Josh Magette picked up 12 assists to move him over 700 for his career. The Birmingham, Ala., native becomes just the second player in Gulf South Conference history to record that many helpers, and he moves to within 34 of matching the all-time record in the league that was set by Sonny Charpentier of Nichols State in 1979.

The Chargers were strong throughout, shooting 55.2 percent from the floor en route to building up a 44-27 lead at the half.

In the opening stanza, Jaime Smith scored 16 of his game-high 19 points as he connected on four shots from long-range, helping the Blue and White to finish the half shooting 6-of-15 from beyond the arc. He added another trey in the second half to complete the contest going 5-for-10 from downtown.

The team connected on six more 3-point tries in the second half to finish with 12 and to record its fourth game with 10 or more 3-pointers.

In addition to the sharpshooting from long-range, UAH was also strong in the paint on Monday as it recorded 43 points inside.

Zane Campbell helped the paint performance as he finished the day second on the team in scoring as he totaled 16, and fellow big man Conner Blasi notched a career-best in points with 15 to go along with 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.

Strong off the bench, Ronnie Mack chipped in with 13 points, and Magette added 10 to register his fifth double-double of the year.

For the fourth time in its last five games, UAH shot better than 50 percent from the floor for the contest as it registered a 55.0 percentage while limiting Oakland City to shoot just 44.9 percent. The Chargers also protected the ball much better than they did in Saturday's contest, lowering their turnovers from 24 against West Georgia to just eight on Monday.

The eight giveaways marks a new season-low for the Blue and White.

On the glass, the Chargers outrebounded the Oaks by a 34-28 margin.

With the brief step away from conference play over, the Chargers will hit the Spragins Hall floor again when they host GSC foe Valdosta State on Thursday with tip scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
