Box Score PENSACOLA, Fla. – Four players scored in double figures for the nation's fourth-ranked team as the University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team wrapped up its busy stretch with a 76-61 victory over Albany State at the West Florida Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday afternoon. The Chargers move to 4-1 with the win.
UAH used a long-range assault to pick up the victory as the team went 14-for-26 from beyond the arc with the 3-pointers accounting for more than half of the team's 26 made field goals on the night.
Jaime Smith paced the team with three made treys, while five others –
Xavier Baldwin,
Ronnie Mack,
Wayne Dedrick,
Andrew Donovan, and
Garrett Cosgrove – each recorded a pair of shots from downtown.
Baldwin led UAH in scoring with 15 points, while Smith recorded 13 and Dedrick notched 12.
Zane Campbell rounded out the Chargers in double figures as he tallied 10 in the win, and the senior set a career-high mark in assists as he led the team with seven helpers.
The Chargers never trailed in the contest, leading by as many as 12 points in the first half on the way to holding a 31-25 advantage at the break. Albany State would not go quietly, however, trimming the deficit to just 38-37 four minutes into the second period, but a Mack triple stopped the swing and allowed the Blue and White to push back out to a 12-point lead at 54-42 with 11:40 remaining.
The Rams would close the gap to just five at 59-54 at the 7:12 mark, but UAH ended the game on a 17-7 run to pick up the comfortable victory.
Shooting 26-for-48 for a field goal percentage of 54.2 percent, UAH would limit the opposition to a shooting mark of just 38.5 percent. Led by
Conner Blasi's seven boards, the Chargers also won the battle on the glass by a 35-29 margin.
The deep UAH bench proved to be a significant difference in the contest as it outscored ASU's reserves 26-8.
James Lodman led Albany State in the losing cause as he scored 17 points.
The Chargers will now return home to open Gulf South Conference play as they will welcome West Georgia for a 7:30 p.m. tilt on Thursday.
