COLUMBUS, Ohio – University of Alabama in Huntsville senior Richard Wilson led the University of Alabama in Huntsville men's track and field team on Friday in the Ohio State Tune-up at French Field House by clocking the nation's 18th-fastest time in the 60 meters this year.
Wilson turned in the fastest time of the prelims in the 60 meters, crossing in 6.94, and was followed closely by junior teammate Dezmen Cage in second (6.97).
In the final, Wilson turned in a season-best and NCAA provisional qualifying time of 6.87, which ranks as the 18th-best in the nation this season. He finished second in the final by a mere .005 seconds. Cage followed in third place with a time of provisional time of 6.95.
The 4x400 meter relay squad of freshman Stephon Hampton, Cage, senior Jaion Rayford and freshman Brennan Parks compiled for a time of 3:20.70. The relay team finished third in the event.
Junior Luke Beck cleared a height of 15-5 3/4 to finish fourth in the pole vault, though he was just 1 1/4 inch from reaching the provisional mark. Also in the jumps, senior Andrew Cole placed fourth in the high jump by clearing 6-5.
UAH will have one final tune-up at the Sewanee Invitational in Sewanee, Tenn., on Feb. 26 before prepping its qualifiers for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships set for March 12-13 in Mankato, Minn.
