HUNTSVILLE, Ala. –
Looking for its third consecutive regular season title, the No. 6 University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team is set to travel to No. 13 Christian Brothers for the squad's biggest game yet of the 2011-12 season as the teams will meet at 4 p.m. on Sunday. The Chargers own a 20-3 (11-1 Gulf South Conference) record, and CBU sits at 19-4 (10-2 GSC). The team will quickly travel up to Indiana following the game to face Oakland City on Monday at 7 p.m.

The Chargers currently sit one game ahead of Christian Brothers in the conference standings, and a win would lock up the top spot for Sunday's visitors. UAH previously won the GSC East Division titles in 2010 and 2011 when the conference still used divisional play.

In addition to the league implications, the game is also significant regionally – and nationally – as the Bucs currently own the top spot in the NCAA South Region rankings with the Blue and White sitting just behind them in second.

Scoring more than 20 points in each of his last three outings, Jaime Smith paces the Chargers and the GSC with a scoring average of 19.0 points per game, and the junior sits first in the nation in 3-point field goals per game (3.6) while his 3-point field goal percentage (52.2 percent) is the second-best among all Division II players.

Josh Magette – who now ranks in the top-10 all-time in Division II history in assists – continues to lead the country with 9.6 assists per contest.

The two teams met earlier in the season at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall, and the Chargers emerged victorious from that contest as they won 74-65. Magette was the star of the contest as he recorded a triple-double in the game as he scored 21 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out 10 assists.

Zane Campbell led all scorers in the affair with 23 points, while the Bucs were led on the night by Zack Warner's 17 to go along with 16 points from Scott Dennis.

The win in Huntsville extended UAH's hold on the all-time series as the Chargers have now won 11 of 15 against CBU.  However, the Blue and White did fall its last time it visited Memphis, losing 54-49 in the 2009-10 season.

In fact, all four of the CBU's wins in the series have come in Memphis.

Both teams enter the game on a positive note as UAH throttled Delta State 96-53 on Thursday night, while Christian Brothers erased a halftime deficit and beat North Alabama on the road 87-74.

Following the contest in Memphis, UAH will travel to Oakland City for a rematch of a game that went towards the Chargers by a 92-64 score earlier when the teams met in the Rocket City.

Live stats and video for the CBU contest will be available at gobucsgo.com, and both games will also be carried on 97.7 The Zone and at 977thezone.com.
