HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The No. 6 UAH men's basketball team is set for its longest road trip in conference play, kicking off the two-game set at Valdosta State on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. CST. The Chargers enter the game with a 17-3 (8-1 Gulf South Conference) record while VSU owns a mark of 9-11 (2-7 GSC).
UAH remained steady at No. 6 in the latest NABC/Division II Poll after another undefeated week, and the team is on an eight-game winning streak.
Continuing to feature three of the best offensive players in the country, the Chargers have
Josh Magette ranked first in assists per game,
Jaime Smith ranked fifth in 3-point shooting percentage, and
Zane Campbell ranked 11th in field goal percentage.
As a team, the Chargers continue to lead the Gulf South Conference in both scoring offense and scoring margin.
The Chargers played their second ranked opponent in their last three home games this past Saturday, and the Blue and White were victorious 66-58 over West Georgia in front of a packed house at Spragins Hall. Magette nearly earned his second triple-double of the season as he led the team with 15 points, 12 assists and eight rebounds, and it was a balanced attacked for UAH as all five starters scored in double figures in the victory.
After being held under 50 percent by West Alabama, the Chargers shot 51.9 percent from the field including a 4-for-5 showing off the bench by key reserve
Conner Blasi.
Valdosta State played No. 10 Christian Brothers close in Memphis its last time out, falling 62-50. The Blazers were led by Sidney Harris who scored 13 and Josh Sparks who added 12, and Harris sits on top of the ledger for VSU on the season with 14.9 points per game. Will Alston leads on the glass with eight rebounds a game.
Valdosta State owns a 23-17 advantage in the all-time series, but UAH was an 86-72 winner in Huntsville earlier this season and took last year's meeting at VSU. Smith led the Chargers in the prior meeting this year as he scored 20, while Magette scored 18 and added 10 assists. Valdosta's Michael Panaggio led all scorers in the contest with 22 points.
