HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The stage is set for Tuesday night as the University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team will battle Christian Brothers for the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball South Region Tournament title with tip scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. The Chargers enter the game at 28-3, while CBU owns a 25-6 mark on the season.
General admission tickets for the contest are available for $8 while student tickets cost $4. The Spragins Hall box office will open at noon on Tuesday.
The Chargers have reached the final of the South Regional for a second straight year, and the squad will attempt tonight to punch its ticket to the Elite Eight in Highland Heights, Ky.
As if the game needed more drama than that produced by the fact that this will be the fourth meeting this season between UAH and Christian Brothers, a win tonight would give Head Coach
Lennie Acuff his 400th career victory while it would also match the program record for wins in an NCAA season.
A 14-0 run at the end of the first half propelled the Chargers to an 82-71 victory as the team defeated Florida Tech and picked up the 19th straight win to reach the championship game.
he effort was a balanced one for the Blue and White as six different Chargers scored in double figures, led by
Zane Campbell's 17, while
Conner Blasi provided a significant spark off the bench and chipped in with 15 points. UAH shot right at 50 percent from the floor and used a solid defensive performance to hold the Panthers to a shooting percentage of just 37 percent.
Christian Brothers reached the championship contest with an 85-73 victory over Florida Southern and a 60-57 triumph over Eckerd in the tournament's closest contest, and it was a game that the Bucs would not have won had it not been for the career performance by Zack Warner as he was 14-for-23 from the floor en route to scoring 33 points.
UAH has taken three meetings from the Bucs this season including a 74-65 decision in Huntsville in January.
Josh Magette has been stellar for the Blue and White in the three games as he has averaged 20.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 8.0 assists, while Warner has led CBU with 19.0 points per contest against UAH this season.
In the all-time series, the Chargers have won 12 of the 17 contests between the two programs including the three wins this year which included a 58-43 decision in the Gulf South Conference Tournament championship game.
