HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The third-ranked University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team will aim to match the longest home winning streak in program history on Saturday when Delta State visits for a 7 p.m. showdown at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. The Chargers own a 12-1 (5-0 Gulf South Conference) record, while DSU sits at 4-8 (0-3 GSC).
UAH has won 19 straight at home to sit just one off of the mark set from February 1999 to January 2000.
The team saw its eight-game streak of making 10 or more 3-pointers end in its 71-61 victory over Christian Brothers, but the team did make nine treys and continues to lead the league in 3-point field goal percentage and 3-point field goals made.
The squad also owns the top three spots individually in 3-point field goal percentage as
Ronnie Mack has connected on 53.6 percent of his attempts, while
Wayne Dedrick sits in second at 44.1 percent and
Jaime Smith is in third by connecting on 44.0 percent from downtown.
In the national rankings, the team ranks third and fourth in 3-point field goal percentage and treys made, respectively.
The Chargers picked up a pair of wins against DSU a season ago to tighten the all-time series between the two programs which is tilted 13-10 in the Statesmen's favor. UAH picked up an impressive 96-53 win in Huntsville as Smith scored 23 while Mack hit six 3-pointers en route to scoring 20 points.
Entering Saturday's contest with a three-game losing streak, Delta State fell 63-53 at Shorter on Thursday evening. Mike Weems scored 15 in the setback, while Terry Leake scored 14. Leake paces the squad with a GSC-best 19.9 points per contest.
