VALDOSTA, Ga. –
With the non-conference portion of the 2012-13 slate wrapped up, the No. 3 University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team is set to step back into Gulf South Conference play when the Chargers (9-1, 2-0 GSC) travel to Valdosta State (9-1, 1-1 GSC) for a 7 p.m. CST showdown at The Complex on Thursday.

The Chargers wrapped up a perfect December with a dominating 107-63 victory over Tuskegee on Sunday, Dec. 30. UAH connected on a season-best 35 attempts from the field while shooting a blistering 64.8 percent including a 14-for-24 (58.3 percent) performance from downtown. Six players scored in double figures for the Chargers led by Jaime Smith's 19-point showing.

As part of the team's current seven-game winning streak, UAH began conference play with a pair of wins as the squad knocked off West Georgia and West Alabama at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. Smith was particularly strong in the two games, averaging 21 points and 5.5 assists.

Though Valdosta State owns the lead in the all-time series by a 23-18 mark, the Chargers won both meetings last season including an impressive 87-65 triumph in Valdosta. In that contest Smith hit seven 3-pointers en route to scoring 30 points.

Valdosta State's only loss this season came in the first weekend of conference play when the Blazers fell 95-94 in overtime at North Alabama. The team has not played since the holiday break with its last game coming on Dec. 18 - a 104-67 win over Coastal Georgia.

VSU averages more than 87 points per game and features five players who are scoring in double figures. James Anacreon leads the way with 18.3 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. Anacreon transferred to Valdosta State for his senior year after spending his junior campaign at Wichita State.

Live stats for the contest will be available, and the game will be carried locally on 97.7 The Zone.
