HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The 11th-ranked University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team will play the second of three straight on the road on Thursday as it opens up the second half of Gulf South Conference play with a 6:30 p.m. CST tilt at West Georgia. The Chargers hold a 14-3 (7-2 GSC) mark entering the game, while UWG sits at 7-10 (4-5 GSC).
The two teams met earlier in the season in the Rocket City, and UAH was an 81-71 winner.
Zane Campbell was 8-for-9 from the field in the contest including a 4-for-5 performance from beyond the arc as both he and teammate
Jaime Smith scored 22 points in the victory.
Both continue to sit on top of the UAH offensive ledger as Smith is scoring 17.8 points per game while Campbell is averaging 11.8 per contest. Two other Chargers are scoring in double figures as
Wayne Dedrick averages 11.5 per game and
Ronnie Mack features a scoring average of 10.1 points.
The trio of Smith, Mack and Dedrick are the league's top performers in 3-pointers per game, helping the Chargers rank third nationally in the category as the team is hitting nearly 11 triples per contest.
UAH will be looking to avoid the tough outcome of last year's contest in Carrollton when West Georgia outlasted the Chargers in overtime by an 82-79 score. Smith and Campbell paced the team in that contest, also, scoring a combined 44 points, but the team turned the ball over an uncharacteristically high amount – 24 times – in the game.
West Georgia has dropped four in a row entering the Thursday night contest, including a 79-55 home setback to Union this past Saturday. Quincy Hill leads the West Georgia offensive attack with 14.2 points per contest.
Live stats and video will be available at uwgsports.com, and the game can be heard in the Tennessee Valley on 97.7 The Zone.
