PENSACOLA, Fla. –
Aiming to capitalize on the momentum generated by Thursday's thrilling win at Valdosta State, the No. 3 University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team is set to face West Florida in Pensacola on Saturday. The Chargers have won eight straight en route to a 10-1 (3-0 Gulf South Conference) mark, and the Argos enter the contest at 7-4 (2-1 GSC).

The Chargers erased a second-half deficit of 15 points in picking up the 79-77 victory over VSU, and Jaime Smith paced UAH with 28 points.

The senior from Birmingham, Ala., sits fourth in the GSC in scoring with 17.5 points per game, and with his six-assist showing against the Blazers, he moved into the top spot in the league in assists with an average of 5.0 per contest.

As a team, the Chargers are the top shooting team in the conference as the only squad to shoot above 50 percent at 51.4 percent, and the team is also strong defensively, limiting the opposition to connect on just 40.4 percent of its attempts.

On fire from downtown, UAH is hitting 43.7 percent from beyond the arc. VSU is the next closest team in the GSC rankings with a 3-point success rate of 34.5 percent.

A season ago, UAH and West Florida met three times including an epic semifinal contest in the GSC tournament when Smith hit a 3-pointer near the buzzer to propel the Chargers into the championship game while also giving the Chargers their third victory over UWF to give UAH a 26-14 advantage in the all-time series.

Ellis Young paces West Florida offensively with 18.6 points per game and he is hitting at a 60.7 percent clip from the field.

Live stats and video for the contest will be available at goargos.com, and the game will be carried locally in the Tennessee Valley on 97.7 The Zone.
