About the Chargers
BOUNCING BACK: Following Sunday's setback to Stillman, UAH will be looking to do something the team has been strong at in recent years – avoiding consecutive losses. The Chargers have not lost in back-to-back games since dropping a GSC tournament contest to Arkansas Tech before falling to Rollins in the NCAA tournament at the end of the 2009-10 season, while the last time UAH dropped consecutive regular season games was in February 2009.
Â
NO SOPHOMORE SLUMP: Though the season is young, Wayne Dedrick has started the season with the same form with which he ended his freshman year. The Tuscaloosa, Ala., native is shooting 50 percent from the floor including an 8-for-17 showing from downtown. That shooting performance allowed him to score 18 points in the season opener before following that up with a 21-point game against Stillman.
Â
SHARP-SHOOTERS: UAH has started the season off strong from beyond the 3-point land as the team is shooting 41.9 percent from downtown. Spencer Palmer has connected on all four of his attempts, while Caleb Duke is 7-for-11 early on. The team's numbers have room for improvement as Ronnie Mack – one of the team's strongest from 3-point land – has connected on only three of his 13 attempts.
Â
BRIGHT LIGHTS: In addition to its exhibition at Vanderbilt this year, the majority of this year's team will be used to playing – and shooting – in bigger arenas including Kansas State last year in the NIT Season Tip-Off and the Bank of Kentucky Center at the 2012 Elite Eight.
Â
EVERYONE INVOLVED: Of all the players on the roster who are not slated to redshirt this year, all but one earned playing time during the team's opening weekend at the GSC/SIAC Conference Challenge. Wayne Dedrick and Ronnie Mack both averaged 27 minutes per game during the two contests, while everyone who played saw nearly 10 minutes a game or more.
About the Opponent
ABOUT THE BULLDOGS: A&M returns all three of its top scorers from a season ago including team leader DeMarquelle Tabb who scored 14 points per contest while averaging 9.9 rebounds a game. Also back are Jeremy Cutcher who scored 12 per game last year and Brandon Ellis who averaged 10.7 per game.
Â
LAST TIME OUT: The Bulldogs travelled to No. 23 New Mexico and fell 88-52 in their season opener on Saturday. Jeremy Crutcher was the lone A&M player to score in double figures as he tallied 17. A&M connected on just 26.8 percent of its attempts from the floor in the game.
Series History
The contest marks the first meeting between the cross-town foes since Nov. 18, 1998, and it represents the 24th all-time showdown between the Chargers and the Bulldogs. Holding the upper hand in the series is A&M who has won 18 of the previous 23 games including the last seven. UAH last defeated the Bulldogs when it won 98-88 in the 1991-92 season.
