HUNTSVILLE, Ala. –
Five players scored in double figures, and the No. 19 University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team cruised by visiting Fort Valley State by a 94-74 score on Saturday afternoon at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. UAH starts the season at 1-0, while FVSU begins at 0-1.

The Chargers were led by sophomore Caleb Duke who was lights out from beyond the arc as he connected on seven of his 11 3-point field goal attempts en route to scoring a career-best 23 points, and he also was second on the team with five rebounds.

Fort Valley State was paced by a tremendous Brandon Davey performance as he hit 12 3-pointers and scored 40 points.

With the Wildcats leading 31-29 with 5:44 left in opening half, Duke scored nine of the team's next 13 points to push the Chargers ahead 42-31 at the 3:55 mark. Fellow sophomore Spencer Palmer followed up Duke's hot run with five consecutive points to help him finish the contest with 10 points while also aiding UAH's cause in building a 49-31 lead at the half.

UAH finished the period on a 20-2 run.

Not taking their foot off the gas pedal, the Chargers continued to play strong in the second half and eventually built up as much a 38-point advantage after a Duke triple at the 7:39 mark made it 85-47.

Led by Davey, the visitors would score nearly 30 points in the final minutes to somewhat narrow the gap before the game ended with the 94-74 final.

Joining Duke and Palmer in double figures was Wayne Dedrick who hit four 3-pointers to score 18 while helping the Chargers go 19-for-39 from downtown. Ronnie Mack scored 12, and Conner Blasi was 8-for-10 from the charity stripe to finish the night with 10.

The Chargers had 23 assists on 29 baskets, and sophomore Greg Gardner led the team with eight helpers while also pacing UAH with six rebounds as the hosts outrebounded FVSU 38-25 on the afternoon.

UAH went 29-for-55 to shoot 52.7 percent from the field, while the Wildcats shot 46.6 percent as they hit 27-of-58 from the floor.

The Chargers will finish play on Sunday the 2013 Comfort Inn GSC/SIAC Conference Challenge when they play Stillman at 4 p.m.
