Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – After sweeping a road series against Christian Brothers this past weekend, the University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team travelled to Montevallo Wednesday night and fell 5-3 in a tight mid-week contest.
The Chargers (19-4, 5-0 Gulf South Conference) loss to the Falcons (19-7, 9-3 Peach Belt Conference) snapped an eight-game winning streak dating back to Feb. 23. UAH put a run across home plate in the ninth, but it wasn't enough to erase the deficit.
Brady Ray (2-3) took the loss for the Chargers, giving up two runs in one inning of work. Alex Guilford (4-0) was credited with the win for Montevallo after throwing eight innings of three-run baseball. Guilford started the ninth inning, but after allowing a lead-off home run to
Jud Sherrill was pulled. Cody Hughes got the final three outs for the Falcons.
UAH started off the scoring in the second inning with a sac fly from
Tyrone Smith that scored Sherrill. Montevallo then scored four unanswered runs. Sherrill hit a single in the top of the sixth that scored
Conner McCain, but Montevallo answered with one more in the bottom of the sixth.
Other than Ray, the Chargers used four more pitchers in the game.
Dana Wright started the game and threw three innings allowing one run and striking out two. Ray came in after Wright and then
Willard Bacon relieved Ray. Bacon struck out two while allowing one run and one hit.
Edwin Reyes came in and allowed a run in two-thirds innings of work, and
Codey Paulson shut down Montevallo for the final 2.1 innings striking out four while allowing no hits and no runs.
UAH will be on the road for their next three games as they travel to Florence for a key series this weekend against North Alabama. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday.
