Chargers Visit Stillman in Crucial Midweek Game

LIVE STATS
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. –
After suffering three losses in the past week, the 13th-ranked University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team will travel to Tuscaloosa on Wednesday to face Stillman in nonconference action at 3 p.m.

The Chargers (29-10-1) will be looking for win number 30 on the season against the Tigers (21-13) and will look to bounce back from some recent struggles.

“We have to play much better. Period. I don't think we've been playing with the same kind of focus the past couple of weeks, but now is a better time than any to turn it around,” said Royer.

UAH fell back into second place in the GSC after losing two games at West Georgia this past weekend before the third game was canceled due to rain. The team split with Lincoln Memorial midweek.

While the latest NCBWA South Region Poll placed UAH at No. 3, the true NCAA South Region Poll will be released next Wednesday, Apr. 24. Where the Chargers land in that poll will paint a much better picture of where they stand.

A very important week has crawled up on the GSC's best hitting team, with a road game at Stillman and a three-game series this weekend against West Alabama in Huntsville.

“We have a big game this week against Stillman. Big game. This our opportunity to get back to playing the brand of baseball we have grown accustomed to,” said Royer.

The two teams met back on Feb. 27 at Charger Park, with UAH stealing a 12-8 victory. Willard Bacon recorded the win, going 5.0 strong innings and not allowing an earned run to close the game.

Chandler Brock picked up three RBIs in the game going 3 for 4, while Conner McCain, Jud Sherrill and Chase Handley each recorded two RBIs.

Stillman might be one of the hottest teams in the state of Alabama at the moment, as the SIAC members have rattled off 10 straight wins. During that stretch the Tigers knocked off GSC affiliates West Alabama and Shorter, while sweeping Miles, Benedict and LeMoyne-Owen.

“We are playing a Stillman team that could beat anyone in the country right now. They made a name for themselves in the regional last year and are playing some great ball right now. It's a must-win for us,” said Royer.

UAH leads the all-time series 11-6, including the win at home this season.
