UAH Knocked Off by Valdosta State in Road Contest

Box Score VALDOSTA, Ga. | Four players scored in double figures, but the University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team dropped an 82-74 decision at host Valdosta State on Monday evening in Gulf South Conference action. The Chargers slip to 6-6 (2-3 GSC), while VSU improves to 9-1 (3-1 GSC).

Wayne Dedrick scored 17 to lead UAH, while freshman Seab Webster scored in double figures for the second time in three games, registering a season-best 14 points.

It was a strong stretch from Webster that helped pull the Chargers back into the contest as the team trailed by as many as 15 points just under two minutes into the second half, but a 28-14 run for the Chargers over the next nine minutes allowed the team to narrow the VSU lead to 62-61.

Webster's great play came towards the end of the run as he made a jumper, grabbed a defensive rebound, hit a free throw and then made another jump shot fall. On the ensuing possession for VSU, Webster blocked a shot, picked up a steal, and proceeded to lay it in on the other end while being fouled, hitting the free throw to complete the 3-point play and pull UAH to within two at 60-58 with 10:17 left.

The Blazers would score on their next trip and Dedrick would answer with a 3-pointer to pull the guests to within one, but the Chargers would go 4-for-13 from the floor the rest of the way and were unable to ever completely overcome the deficit.

The Chargers shot 46.4 percent for the game, and that was aided by a strong 5-for-8 night from Conner Blasi who scored 13, and Ronnie Mack matched him with 13 to round out UAH's double-figure scorers.

David Murray led Valdosta State with a double-double as he scored 20 and grabbed 12 rebounds, and he was matched in the scoring department by Colin Cook who also poured in 20 as the Blazers shot 47.5 percent from the field.

Murray's performance also helped the Blazers own a 38-29 edge in rebounding.

The Chargers will aim to snap their three-game slide on Thursday when they travel to Shorter, and the team will then return home on Saturday to face West Georgia at 5 p.m.
