Live VideoLOOKING TO STAY HOT: The Chargers will continue Gulf South Conference play this week, looking to build off of the 2-0 start to league action after defeating both West Florida and Valdosta State a week ago. UAH will host West Alabama on Thursday night at 7:30, and the team will face its first road GSC game on Sunday when traveling to West Georgia for a 3 p.m. CST showdown on Sunday.
Â
APPROACHING A MILESTONE: After hitting seven 3-pointers in UAH's 83-51 win over Valdosta State, senior guard
Ronnie Mack now sits just 14 points away from the 1,000-point plateau. The Birmingham native has been a terrific 3-point shooter during his time in Huntsville, shooting better than 40 percent in each season, and he currently leads the GSC and ranks third in the nation with 4.4 treys per game.
Â
SHARING THE BALL: With more than 19 assists per game, the Chargers lead the GSC and place ninth in all of Division II in that statistical category, and UAH is also 12th in the nation with 154 total assists.
Greg Gardner owns 53 of the helpers to rank ninth in the country individually in total assists, and he places 10th with 6.6 per contest.
Â
FRESHMEN HELPING OUT: The Chargers have had a freshman come off the bench to score in double figures in both of the team's contests in GSC action as
Justin Ward hit five 3-pointers and scored 15 against West Florida before
Kip Owens notched a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards against Valdosta State.
Â
ABOUT WEST ALABAMA: The Tigers come to Huntsville at 5-4 and even in conference play at 1-1 after beating Mississippi College and falling to Delta State last week. Led by Justin Wright's 16.4 points per game, the Tigers are scoring just under 80 points per game while shooting 50.9 percent for the season.
Â
SERIES HISTORY: UAH holds a 45-20 advantage in the all-time series with the Tigers, and the Chargers have not lost at home to UWA since the 1997-98 season. The two teams split the season series last year with each team winning on its home floor including an 84-80 victory in Huntsville for the Chargers.
Â
ABOUT WEST GEORGIA: UWG is the lone unbeaten team in the conference heading into this week's action, sitting at 7-0 and 2-0 in GSC play. Deonta Stocks and Alex Abreu pace the Wolves offensively with 20.4 and 19.3 points per game, respectively, as the team is scoring a GSC-best 93.7 per night.
Â
SERIES HISTORY: The Chargers own a 25-22 lead all-time against West Georgia after the season series was also split a year ago. In Carrollton, Georgia, the Chargers fell 76-67 as Gardner led the team with 17 points and eight assists.
