Box Score CARROLLTON, Ga. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team fell on the road in Gulf South Conference action, dropping a 76-67 decision to West Georgia on Sunday afternoon. UAH slips to 13-10 (9-7 GSC), while West Georgia improves to 16-9 (8-8 GSC).
Led by
Greg Gardner's career-best scoring performance of 17, the Chargers had four finish the contest in double figures as the sophomore was joined by senior
Conner Blasi who tallied 15.
Wayne Dedrick tallied 11, and
Taylor Chapman came off the bench to also score 11.
Gardner added eight assists and five rebounds on the evening.
After falling behind by four just over a minute into the contest, the Chargers would bounce back and eventually go up by eight at 23-15 at the 8:56 mark on a run that was punctuated by five straight points from Blasi.
After chipping away at the Charger advantage, UWG went into the locker room with the lead at 35-31.
West Georgia would remain in front until a pair of Gardner free throws with 15:57 left in the contest put UAH back on top at 41-40 followed by a Dedrick jumper made it 43-40, and it was at that point that the hosts went on a 18-4 run to take control of the contest as the Chargers could pull no closer than six in the closing minutes.
For the contest, West Georgia shot 47.2 percent from the floor while the Chargers connected on 45.5 percent of its attempts. At the charity stripe, UAH went 8-for-10, and West Georgia made 21 of their 26 attempts.
Led by Stephan Thompson's 10 boards, West Georgia won the battle on the glass by a 34-28 margin. A key difference in the game, the hosts outscored UAH in second chance points 16-8, scoring those 16 points on just eight offensive rebounds.
Deonta Stocks led the Woles with 20 points.
UAH will look to bounce back when it continues the road trip on Tuesday night in Livingston as the Chargers take on West Alabama. The contest is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.
