About the Chargers
•UAH will make its 14th appearance at the Gulf South Conference Men's Basketball Championships this week at the tournament held at the Pete Hanna Center on the campus of Samford University in Homewood, Ala.
•The Chargers own the fifth seed in this year's tournament after posting an 11-9 conference record. UAH owned the top seed in the past four tournaments.
•Friday's opening round opponent of fourth-seeded Christian Brothers is the team that UAH has most frequently played over the past three seasons as the meeting will mark the 10th between the two programs since 2011-12.
•UAH is 7-2 in the nine meetings leading up to Friday's contest, including a 3-0 record in the postseason against the Buccaneers.
•The Chargers ended the regular season dropping three of its last five contests including a 97-95 overtime setback to North Alabama to close out the year. UAH's two other losses came on the road where the team was 3-8 on the year.
•Greg Gardner led UAH in the loss, registering a career-high in points for the second straight game as the sophomore poured in 25 on the strength of a 7-of-9 shooting performance from the floor.
•Gardner improved his scoring average to 9.0 points per game in the loss, while his field goal percentage increased to 48.1 percent.
•Also having a strong night against the Lions was Ronnie Mack who went 8-for-12 from the field including a 6-of-9 night from beyond the arc to score 22 points. It was Mack's best night from 3-point land since he hit five triples against Lee (1/18).
•The 22 points against UNA for Mack was also the highest for the junior since he scored 23 against Lee (1/18).
About the Opponent
•Christian Brothers finished the regular season with an overall record of 16-10 and 12-8 in conference play while winning its last two games heading into the postseason. The Bucs were one of the top defensive teams in the conference, allowing the second fewest points at 67.7 points per game.
•First Team All-GSC selection Trey Casey led the Bucs in scoring at 19.2 points per game while finishing fourth in the category in the conference, and he led the league at 2.2 steals per game.
Series History
•UAH leads the all-time series with Christian Brothers by a 17-6 margin after the two teams split the series this season.
•In the meeting between the two teams in Huntsville earlier, Wayne Dedrick finished the night with 24 points, while Ronnie Mack added 18 to lead UAH to a 81-77 victory. In the 70-58 setback for the Chargers in Memphis, Cory McArthy led the Bucs with 20, while Trey Casey chipped in with 18. UAH's Conner Blasi scored 22 on a 6-of-9 showing from the field to lead the visitors.
