Live VideoRIVARLY TIME: UAH will welcome North Alabama to Kelly Court at Spragins Hall at 4 p.m. on Saturday for the 60th edition of the rivalry contest. The Chargers have won three straight and will take a 12-4 (7-3 Gulf South Conference) record into the showdown with the Lions.
Â
BOUNCING BACK: UAH fell in the last two games before the Christmas break and dropped the first contest after the holidays, but the Chargers have responded well by reeling off three straight against tough competition in Delta State, Union, and Christian Brothers. The three-game winning streak has allowed UAH to remain on top of the GSC standings as the team is tied with Delta State at 7-3.
Â
DEFENSE IS KEY: Though the Chargers rank just eighth in the GSC in scoring on the season, the team has turned in the best effort in scoring defense, holding the opposition to an average of just 65.8 points per game. That strong defensive play has allowed UAH to rank in a tie for first with West Georgia in the conference in scoring margin at 7.1 points per game.
Â
STREAKING SOPHOMORE:
Seab Webster has been sensational for the Chargers since the team returned from the holidays, averaging 22.8 points per game over the four contests. The Madison County High School product has been particularly impressive in the past two games as he established a career high with 33 points at Union before following that up with a 25-point showing at Christian Brothers.
Â
AMONG THE BEST: Several Chargers are at or near the top in various statistical categories in the GSC, led by
Preston Herring who is pacing the conference with 8.9 rebounds per game while also ranking second with 1.9 blocks per game. In second in 3-pointers per game is
Ronnie Mack with 2.8, while
Greg Gardner sits second in the conference with 6.1 assists per contest and an assist/turnover ratio of 2.7.
Â
ABOUT NORTH ALABAMA: The Lions have fallen in three of their last four after dropping a contest at West Georgia on Thursday night, and the team will bring a 6-10 (3-7 GSC) record to the Rocket City. UNA features four players that are scoring in double figures, led by Nathan Spehr who is averaging 14.3 per game, while Jere Vucica adds 7.2 rebounds per contest to go along with a scoring average of 13.1.
Â
SERIES HISTORY: North Alabama leads the all-time series by a 34-25 margin, but the teams have split the two season meetings in each of the past two years. Last year in Huntsville, the final game of the season required overtime after Spehr hit a 3-pointer at the end of regulation, and the visiting Lions went on to win 97-95. Gardner was one of five players who scored in double figures for the Chargers as he tallied 25.
