Live VideoSTARTING 2015: The Chargers open the new calendar year with another pair of GSC games, hosting Mississippi College at 4 p.m. on Saturday before welcoming Delta State to Kelly Court at Spragins Hall on Monday night at 7:30. UAH owns a 9-3 record and is tied for first in the GSC with a 4-2 mark after dropping consecutive road decisions just prior to Christmas.

HOME, SWEET HOME: UAH has been particularly impressive at home this season, owning a perfect 8-0 mark. The Chargers have shot 48 percent at home compared to an overall mark of 46.5 percent for the season, and the 3-ball has gone in at a 40.8 percent in Huntsville while UAH features an overall 3-point mark of 38.9 percent.

AT THE TOP: With 9.3 rebounds per game,
Preston Herring is leading the GSC on the glass. He has grabbed more than 10 rebounds on five occasions including a season-best 18 against West Georgia, and the Lester, Alabama, native is nearly averaging a double-double on the season as he is also scoring 11.8 points per game, shooting 61 percent from the floor.

OWENS FEATURED: Redshirt freshman
Kip Owens who is averaging 5.3 points and 3.6 rebounds per contest as one of UAH's key reserves was highlighted in this week's edition of the
GSC Friday Feature.

ABOUT MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE: MC visits Huntsville with a 4-4 (2-4 GSC) record, but the team picked up wins against West Florida and Valdosta State at home just before the holidays. With 16.3 points and 8.9 rebounds per contest, Tory Rice is leading the Choctaws, while Johnny Rucker is also scoring in double figures with 13.5 points per game.

WELCOME BACK: The Choctaws are making a return to the GSC and Division II, slated to become full-time members once again for the 2016-17 year. Contests against MC count in the standings, but MC is not yet eligible for the postseason.

SERIES HISTORY: The Chargers have met the Choctaws just twice and lost both with the last contest coming on Dec. 16, 1996.

ABOUT DELTA STATE: The Statesmen will be making their post-Christmas debut against the Chargers, and the team will bring to Huntsville a 7-5 (4-2 GSC) record as one of the three teams eligible for the postseason that are tied for first in the conference. Devin Schmidt leads DSU with 18.3 points and 4.7 assists per contest.

SERIES HISTORY: After winning both meetings last season, Delta State now owns a 16-11 edge in the all-time series. The game went to overtime in Huntsville a year ago with DSU taking an 86-82 decision despite the Chargers having four players score in double figures.
