GSC SHOWDOWNS: After going 1-1 on last week's Valdosta-to-West Florida road trip, the Chargers are prepared to take on two teams that are currently tied with UAH for first place in the Gulf South Conference in West Georgia and West Alabama. The Chargers (14-5, 9-4 GSC) will host UWG at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday before venturing for a 4 p.m. contest at UWA on Saturday. Both games can be heard on 97.7 The Zone in the Tennessee Valley.

LOGJAM: UAH, West Georgia, and West Alabama are all joined by Shorter at the top of the conference standings with each team having a conference record of 9-4, while Union and Delta State are only one game out with league marks of 8-5. No other league in the country has more than two teams tied for first.

SOMETHING HAS TO GIVE: When UAH and West Georgia meet on Thursday night, the contest will feature the GSC's top scoring offense in UWG (87.4 points per game) going up against the league's best scoring defense team in UAH (66.2 points per game).

DISHING OUT DIMES: Troy Saxton has been sensational with the rock in the team's last three contests, assisting on 23 baskets while committing just one turnover, raising his assist/turnover ratio to 2.5 on the season. With Greg Gardner at second at 2.7 and Saxton sitting fourth, the Chargers are the only team in the league to feature two players in the top five in assist/turnover ratio.

ABOUT WEST GEORGIA: The Wolves will travel to Huntsville with a 14-4 (9-4 GSC) record in tow, and the team is 5-3 away from home. Winners of five of their last six, the Wolves feature four players who average double figures with Deonta Stocks' 20.7 points per game scoring average leading the way.

EARLIER THIS YEAR: The Chargers traveled to Carrollton, jumped out to a 19-5 lead in the game's first six minutes, and left with a 79-62 victory back in December. Preston Herring's efforts in the game led to him being named the GSC Player of the Week as he had 17 points and 18 rebounds in the triumph.

ABOUT WEST ALABAMA: In the middle of a 10-of-11 stretch at home, the Tigers have won six straight to sit at 14-7 (9-4 GSC) while running the program's home win streak to 19 games. Justin Wright is leading UWA with 14.5 points per game, while Lleon Tillman's 8.8 rebounds is the team-best in that category.

EARLIER THIS YEAR: The Chargers led for most of the contest but never by double digits in a 63-57 victory in the Rocket City. Herring scored 14, while Justin Ward chipped in with a pair of 3-pointers to score 10 in the contest. Gardner had a season-high 11 assists.
