No. 6 UAH Set for Weekend Series at West Florida

RECENT ACTION: UAH swept Shorter in a three-game series at Charger Park this past weekend by scores of 3-1, 12-10 and 2-0. The Chargers improved to 12-1-1 (8-1-1 GSC) and now own a first-place standing within the conference. UAH's midweek contest at Montevallo was postponed earlier this week.

GSC'S BEST: Mitchell Wright tossed 7.0 shutout innings with three hits allowed, eight strikeouts and no walks to complete the series sweep in the finale and earn GSC Pitcher of the Week honors. A Huntsville native, Wright's ERA dipped to 0.53 on the season over 17.0 innings pitched. He is the second UAH pitcher to win the conference's weekly award, as fellow starter Daniel Koger earned the honor earlier this season.

POLLING PLACE: The Chargers came in the top 10 of all national polls this week, which included the highest ranking of the season at No. 4 by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. The next highest rating for UAH was at No. 6 by Perfect Game, followed by D2BaseballNews.com who has the Blue and White at No. 8 in the country. Collegiate Baseball Newspaper put UAH at No. 10 in the NCAA to round out the polls.

REGIONAL UPDATE: UAH comes in at No. 2 with three first-place votes in the NCBWA South Region poll for the second week in a row, behind consensus national No. 1 Tampa. Following UAH in the top five within the region is Florida Tech (17-1), Nova Southeastern (16-3) and Saint Leo (17-4).

STARTING OFF WELL: Cody Burton had a successful weekend at the plate in the series sweep of Shorter, batting .417 (5-for-12) in the three game series. Burton leads UAH this season with a .455 batting average, owning team-high's in runs scored (21), hits (20), triples (2), total bases (32), slugging percentage (.727), walks (15) and on-base percentage (.600). Within the GSC, Burton ranks second in batting average, second in slugging percentage, second in walks, and first in on-base percentage.

STRENGTH IN THE 'PEN: Senior Luke Mould continues to excel out the back end of head coach Hunter Royer's bullpen, as the right-hander owns a 0.66 ERA over 13.2 innings and is second in the GSC with four saves.

PATIENCE WITH POWER: The Chargers rank second in the league in both slugging percentage (.508) and on-base percentage (.417), led by Burton at marks of .727 and .600, respectively. UAH has a total of five players slugging above .500, with nine regulars reaching base above a .340 clip. The Blue and White have totaled 18 homers, good for second in the conference. Brandon Lawing – who has totaled four home runs in five games – leads UAH with four round-trippers.

ON THE BUMP: UAH received strong starts this past weekend from Daniel Koger and Mitchell Wright, who combined for 13.1 innings, one run, and 18 strikeouts. Wright tossed 7.0 shutout innings with three hits allowed, eight strikeouts and no walks to complete the series sweep in the finale to earn GSC Pitcher of the Week honors. A Huntsville native, Wright's ERA dipped to 0.53 on the season over 17.0 innings pitched.

MATCHUP HISTORY: UAH has an all-time series record of 41-31 against West Florida, after winning three of the four matchups last season that included a 6-0 win in the GSC Tournament. The Chargers are 7-1 against the Argonauts over the past two seasons.

ARGOS PROFILE: West Florida is coming off a GSC series sweep of Union this past weekend by scores of 10-2, 2-0 and 10-2 to give UWF a 14-7 overall record and an 8-4 mark in league games. The Argonauts are batting a collective .327 this season, led by Nic Strasser with a .431 batting average including 20 runs, six doubles, and 14 RBI. The West Florida pitching staff has accumulated a 3.64 ERA over 175.1 innings pitched this season. UWF starting pitchers Brandon Nagem (1.58 ERA) and Walker O'Connor (1.69 ERA) pace the staff.
