MARQUEE MATCH-UPS: The fifth-ranked UAH men's basketball team continues play this weekend, traveling to the inaugural Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic in Evansville, Indiana, for a pair of contests against top-five teams. The Chargers will face third-ranked Bellarmine on Friday at 3:30 p.m. before turning around to play No. 2 Lincoln Memorial on Saturday. Saturday's game will be streamed on ESPN3 and can also be heard in the Tennessee Valley on 97.7 The Zone.
Â
RECAPPING LAST WEEK: UAH sits at 2-0 on the season after picking up victories over Saint Leo and Tampa last weekend in the GSC/SSC Conference Challenge.
Troy Saxton hit a 3-pointer with 26 seconds left to lift the Chargers to the 82-80 win over Saint Leo, and
Seab Webster hit the go-ahead free throws in the 91-86 win over Tampa with just 48 seconds remaining.
Â
WEBSTER STARTING STRONG: Webster recorded a double-double in the Saint Leo win, on his way to averaging 19.5 points and 10.0 rebounds in the two key region victories. The senior was a preseason honorable mention All-American in the Division II Bulletin, and he is on track to become the ninth player in UAH history with 1,000 points and 500 rebounds as he sits presently with 1,227 and 456, respectively.
Â
THE SHOTS WILL FALL: UAH connected on just 28.2 percent of its 3-point attempts last weekend despite having solid looks. History suggests that number will rise as the Chargers shot 38.8 percent from long-range last season, and the team had just one instance a year ago in which it hit just 11 3-pointers in a two-game span. In the previous five seasons, UAH has shot above 40 percent from downtown twice, and the program's lowest performance during that timeframe came in 2014-15 when the team connected on 37.3 percent of its attempts.
Â
ABOUT BELLARMINE: The Knights are 1-1 on the young season, falling 68-66 to No. 4 Saginaw Valley State in the season opener before turning around to win 85-70 over Northwood. Three players are scoring in double figures for Bellarmine with Adam Eberhad's 16.5 points per game leading the way, and he was especially strong in the team's win, scoring 22 to go along with a team-best five rebounds.
Â
SERIES HISTORY: UAH is 2-2 all-time against Bellarmine with the last meeting coming in the 2012 Elite Eight when the Knights edged out UAH for an appearance in the national semifinals. The Chargers led that contest 41-32, but Bellarmine used a strong second half and made free throws down the stretch to secure an 82-73 victory.
Â
ABOUT LINCOLN MEMORIAL: The Railsplitters enter the weekend at 2-0 on the season after cruising past King 92-70 and Lees-McRae 94-66 to start the campaign. Last year's national-runner up has four scoring in double figures with Chris Perry pacing the team with 19.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per contest. The team will open up the SCB HOF Classic with a 6 p.m. contest against Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday.
Â
SERIES HISTORY: The Chargers are 22-14 all-time against LMU as the two programs used to meet regularly as members of the GSC. With LMU leaving the league, however, the two teams have not met since Feb. 20, 2006.
