BACK AT HOME, BACK ON THE ROAD: The 25th-ranked UAH men's basketball team returns home this week, welcoming Shorter on Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. before heading back on the road for a game as the Chargers travel to Lee on Saturday for a 3 p.m. CST contest. UAH is 11-4 overall and 7-2 in conference play heading into the pair of games.
Â
RANKINGS UPDATE: UAH remained in the national rankings this week, slipping back to 25th from No. 21 in the NABC Division II Top 25 Poll. For the first time this season the Chargers are joined in the poll by a GSC school as Delta State jumped into the rankings at 24th.
Â
AROUND THE GSC: It is now a three-way tie on top of the GSC standings with the Chargers even with Valdosta State and Delta State with identical 7-2 records. Christian Brothers is in fourth at 6-4 which is a half-game ahead of fifth-place Lee who is 5-4. West Florida, Shorter, and West Georgia are next in the standings tied for sixth at 4-5.
Â
MILESTONE TRACKER: After the Chargers split last weekend's road trip to Mississippi, head coach
Lennie Acuff enters this week's pair of games with 499 career victories. Also of significant note,
Brandon Roberts enters the week sitting on 978 career points in his collegiate career including his two-year stint at Samford prior to transferring to UAH for his junior and senior years, and
Seab Webster presently has racked up 594 rebounds.
Â
SHARING THE BALL: Though UAH's style of offense does not lend itself to the team piling up assists as in years past, valuing the rock has still been an important factor for the Chargers this year, evidenced by the fact that UAH is 10-2 on the season when dishing out 10 or more assists while owning a 1-2 record in games with single-digits in helpers.
Troy Saxton leads the team with 3.0 assists per game, while
Michael Gilmore has 33 assists to go along with just five turnovers.
Â
ABOUT SHORTER: Shorter owns a 10-5 (4-5 Gulf South Conference) record, and the Hawks are an even 3-3 in road games on the season. Helping the team average 85.9 points per game, Phil Taylor is averaging 35.3 points per contest thanks to performances that include a 62-point showing and a game against GSC foe Mississippi College in which he scored 52.
Â
SERIES HISTORY: The Chargers own an 8-2 advantage in the all-time series after sweeping three contests from Shorter last year including a win at home in the regular season and again in the GSC tournament Super Tuesday round in Huntsville. In the regular season contest, UAHÂ was a 100-97 winner with Roberts scoring a team-best 23 points.
Â
ABOUT LEE: The Flames – who will travel to North Alabama on Thursday – sit at 9-6 overall and 5-4 in league play while featuring a 5-2 home record, and the team has won three straight. Keevin Tyus sits atop the offensive ledger for the Flames, scoring 17.8 points per game, and he is also the team's leader on the glass, collecting 6.9 boards per contest.
Â
SERIES HISTORY: UAH holds a 7-3 record against Lee all-time, and the team swept both meetings last year with Webster scoring 16 to lead the team in a 78-66 win last year.
