BACK AT IT: The UAH men's basketball team returns to action after a 10-day break, welcoming Lee on Saturday at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall at 4 p.m. before playing in the Rocket City Classic at the Von Braun Center on Tuesday at 5:15 p.m. against Shorter. The Chargers enter the weekend at 6-3 (0-2 Gulf South Conference).
Â
PLAYING DOWNTOWN: The Chargers will be in action at Propst Arena at the VBC on Tuesday for the first time since UAH played Alabama A&M there on Nov. 14, 2013. Following UAH's game against Shorter, Alabama and Mercer will play with tip-off in that one slated for 8 p.m. As of Friday afternoon, only single seats were available on the Ticketmaster website with the event poised to be a hard sellout.
Â
LAST TIME OUT: The Chargers earned the season sweep of non-conference foe Trevecca Nazarene on Dec. 5, picking up an 84-69 victory on the road.
Chayse Elliott knocked down seven 3-pointers en route to scoring a career-best 29 in the win.
Â
STILL HOT FROM LONG-RANGE: The Chargers enter the weekend ranked second in the GSC in 3-pointers per game with 12.1 while standing third with a 40.4 shooting mark from beyond the arc. UAH boasts six players shooting above 40 percent on 3-point tries led by
Sam Orf's 47.6 percent rate while
Justin Ward has a team-high 28 3s on the year on the strength of a 42.4 percent showing from downtown.
Â
DEEP SQUAD: UAH does not feature anyone in the top 20 in the league in minutes as
Justin Ward's 30.3 minutes per game ranks 21st in the league, but that is by design as the Chargers feature six players who are averaging at least 20 minutes per game while eight players are playing more than 10 minutes per outing. The scoring has also been balanced with seven different players scoring seven or more points on average per game.
Â
ABOUT THE FLAMES: Lee visits Huntsville as an owner of a 7-2 overall mark and a 2-0 record in GSC play, and seven of the team's nine games have been in Cleveland with the Flames going 1-1 in its two road games. Five players are scoring at least eight points per game for Lee with Ryan Montgomery's 11.6 points per contest leading the way, while Levi Woods leads on the boards with 5.4 rebounds per game.
Â
SERIES HISTORY: UAH is 9-3 all-time against the Flames after sweeping both games last year. In Huntsville, the Chargers were 92-86 winners, and the two teams combined to score 376 points in the two games.
Â
ABOUT SHORTER: The Hawks are 1-10 on the season and 1-2 in GSC action after falling on Thursday 96-85 at North Alabama. Both Amonte Potter and Josh Burnett are scoring 16.3 points per contest with Burnett also leading Shorter with a rebounding average of 5.8 per game.
Â
SERIES HISTORY: Both teams defended their respective home floors a year ago, pushing the all-time series to a 9-3 advantage for UAH. The Chargers were 83-75 winners in the Rocket City.
