HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team will make its 13th straight appearance in the conference tournament when it welcomes Union for the quarterfinals of the 2017 visitspacecoast.com Gulf South Conference Men's Basketball Championships on Tuesday. Tip-off at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall is slated for 7 p.m.

The contest between the Chargers (21-7) and the Bulldogs (14-14) will be the second meeting in just four days between the two teams as UAH was a 79-74 winner at Union on the regular season's last day on Saturday.

In that victory, the Chargers were led by
Brandon Roberts who recorded his second straight game with 19 points as he was a strong 4-for-6 from beyond the arc, and his performance allowed UAH to build up as much as an 11-point lead before the team had to withstand a late charge from the Bulldogs.

Roberts is one of three players who is averaging in double figures for UAH as his 16.5 points per game scoring average is second to
Seab Webster who is scoring at an 18.5 points per contest clip, and
Troy Saxton rounds out the double-digit scorers as he owns a scoring average of 10.3. In rebounding, the team is paced by Webster's 8.2 rebounds per game, and pacing the team in assists is Saxton who dishes out 4.5 per contest.

The Bulldogs visit Huntsville with four that average in double figures led by freshman Tray Boyd who is scoring 15.9 points per game, while Jarad Scott is averaging nearly 13 points a night to go along with a team-best rebounding average of 8.0 boards.

The Chargers are now 10-1 against the Bulldogs, but the games have been much closer than the series record would indicate with the last three games in Huntsville coming down to the wire after UAH completed stunning comebacks in each. Most recently, UAH was a 111-109 winner in overtime back on Jan. 7 when the home team erased an 11-point deficit in the final 3:30 of regulation to force the extra five minutes.

Webster led the Chargers in that contest as he scored a career-high 38 points.

UAH and Union have met once previously in the conference tournament with that meeting coming in the semifinals in 2015 when the Chargers were 77-75 winners – again in overtime – on their way to ultimately winning the title that season.

The Chargers are 16-14 overall in the tournament, and the team has eight semifinal appearances, five trips to the title game, and a pair of tourney championships.

Last season, UAH advanced to the championship game after knocking off Shorter on Super Tuesday and Delta State in the semifinals, and the Chargers were runners-up in the tournament for the third after being dealt a setback by West Georgia.
