NCAA SOUTH REGIONAL SITE
HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team will open up play in its second consecutive NCAA tournament as the top seed and host of the South Regional when it takes on eighth-seeded Clark Atlanta at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall on Saturday evening at 5:30 p.m.
The berth Is UAH's third straight overall in the national tournament.

UAH enters at 24-7 and as champions of the Gulf South Conference tournament, while CAU is 21-11 on the season and is riding a seven-game winning streak including its three victories en route to winning the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament.

The strong season for the Chargers earned the team hosting rights of the regional for the second consecutive season, and it marks the fourth time in the past seven seasons that UAH has welcomed the eight-team field to the Rocket City.

The team converted its top seed at the regional in 2011 and 2012 into Elite Eight berths, while last year UAH reached the regional final before narrowly falling to Barry.

Saturday's contest will represent UAH's 10th appearance in the NCAA tournament overall, and the Chargers have gone 11-9 in the event including a 77-63 opening-game victory over Clark Atlanta in the 2011 regional held in Huntsville.

This year's UAH team is led by a trio of players who are averaging double figures led by
Seab Webster's 18.7 points per game, while
Brandon Roberts and
Troy Saxton are averaging 16.2 and 11.0 points per contest, respectively.

Webster is also pacing the team on the glass with a rebounding average of 8.2, and Saxton is dishing out a team-best 4.7 assists per game.

Both Webster and Saxton earned a place on the all-tournament team after helping lead the Chargers to the conference title last Sunday.

The Panthers also won a league title in Birmingham after hitting a 3-pointer in the final seconds of a 64-62 victory over Fort Valley State, and the team features a balanced scoring attack with five players scoring in double figures paced by Tim Sanders and his 13.6 points per game.

Lawrance Triplett is nearly averaging a double-double for CAU as in addition his scoring average of 12.0, he is also grabbing 9.6 boards per game.

The head coach for the Panthers is Darrell Walker who also was a head coach at top level of basketball, leading the Toronto Raptors from 1996-98 while also enjoying a stint with the Washington franchise in the 1999-2000 season.

The winner of Saturday's contest will take on the winner of fourth-seeded Barry and No. 5 seed Eckerd in the semifinals on Sunday evening.
