HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team will take part in its fifth regional final in the past seven seasons on Tuesday when the top-seeded team in the South Region hosts the No. 7 seed Rollins at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall at 7 p.m.
Â
Children 17 and under will be admitted for $5, while the adult ticket costs $15.
Â
The Chargers are part of a select group of programs who have been to numerous regional finals over the past seven years, tying with Bellarmine for the second-most trips with the five, while West Liberty has been to a Division II-best six during that time frame.
Â
UAH advanced to this year's regional title game after knocking off Barry 96-82 on Sunday night to earn revenge for last year's championship game that saw the Buccaneers win on UAH's home floor.
Â
In the victory, D2CCA All-South Region performer
Seab Webster was terrific as he scored 30 points while grabbing 11 rebounds, and he was one of five Chargers who scored in double figures in the contest as the team scored more than 90 points for the third game in a row.
Â
The Tars have had a strong run during their stay in Huntsville, knocking off second-seeded Valdosta State by an 89-85 score in overtime on Saturday, and the team pushed its win streak to 10 with an 88-61 throttling of third-seeded Delta State on Sunday.
Â
Four players are averaging double figures for Rollins with Sam Philpott's 15.1 points per game leading the way.
Â
The Tars are dangerous from beyond the arc, knocking down 3-pointers at a 41.7 percent clip, and that talent was on display in the win over Delta State when the team went 17-for-30 from long-range including a blistering 12-for-18 showing in the first half.
Â
The two programs have met in the NCAA tournament three times with Rollins winning each encounter, but they have not met since the 2010 South Regional at Arkansas Tech when the Tars won 59-57 in overtime.
Â
That game marked a turning point of sorts in UAH's tournament history as that setback made the Chargers 1-4 in NCAA tournament play, and the team has gone 12-5 in six appearances since including the aforementioned five trips to the regional championship.
Â
The winner of Tuesday's game will advance to the 2017 NCAA Division II Elite Eight to be held in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, starting on March 22.
