RIVALRY RENEWED: The UAH men's basketball team will welcome rival North Alabama to Kelly Court at Spragins Hall on Saturday with tip-off slated for 4 p.m. The Chargers enter the game at 12-6 overall and 5-5 in conference play.
Â
ONE LAST TIME: The contest on Saturday marks what will likely be the final regular season meeting in Huntsville between the two programs as North Alabama is moving to Division I next season. The two teams will close out the storied rivalry in Florence on Saturday, Feb. 10.
Â
LAST TIME OUT: UAH earned its first conference road of the season with a 106-77 victory at Auburn Montgomery before travelling to West Georgia where the team fell 122-118 in a contest that required triple overtime to be decided.
Â
AROUND THE GSC: Beyond West Florida and Valdosta State who are tied for first with 8-1 records, there is little separation as there is just a two-game difference between the next six spots. West Alabama is in third at 7-3 and is followed by fourth-place Lee and its 6-4 mark, while Delta State is in fifth at 6-5. Christian Brothers, Montevallo, and the Chargers are then all tied for sixth with a league record of 5-5.
Â
CENTURY-MARK STREAK: UAH is currently on a streak that has only happened once before in program history as the Chargers have scored at least 100 in three straight games to match the 1979-80 team's same performance. However, this year's team has ownership now of the most prolific three-game scoring stretch in program history, totaling 333 points during the span compared to 324 for the 1979-80 team.
Â
CLEAN THE GLASS: One of UAH's apparent keys to success in victories is grabbing at least 35 rebounds. In games this year where the team has reached at least 35 boards, the Chargers 9-1 – with the one setback being on Monday in the triple overtime contest that saw UAH collect a season-best 54 rebounds. UAH is just 3-5 in games where it records fewer than 35.
Â
ABOUT NORTH ALABAMA: The Lions visit Huntsville at 9-8 overall, 4-6 in conference play, and just 2-5 in road games. The team features five different players who averaging double figures in scoring with Kendall Stafford's 14.8 points leading the way, and he is also the team leader on the glass as he grabs 8.8 rebounds per contest. The Lions have lost five of their last seven games.
Â
SERIES HISTORY: Saturday's meeting will be the 67th all-time between the two squads, and UNA holds a 36-30 advantage in those contests. However, UAH has won five of the last seven games in the series including both a year ago. In the Rocket City, UAH won 105-88 last year as four players scored in double figures including
Justin Ward who poured in 25.
