HUNTSVILLE | The final Gulf South Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week from a season ago is the first of the new campaign as
JJ Kaplan has been selected as the first honoree of the 2019-20 season, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Â
This is Kaplan's second weekly honor of his career.
Â
Kaplan was instrumental in the Chargers going 2-0 to open the season as he posted a pair of double-doubles on the weekend.
Â
In UAH's 56-48 win over Saint Leo to open the year, the junior scored 11 points while grabbing 14 rebounds, and he followed that up with 16 points and 14 more rebounds in the team's 75-68 victory over Tampa.
Â
Kaplan was by far the best rebounder in the league last weekend, finishing with seven more rebounds than the next performance by a GSC player.
Â
For the Huntsville native, the double-doubles represented the ninth and 10th of his career after he had eight last season.
Â
Kaplan and his teammates will be off this week, returning to action on Nov. 19 at Clark-Atlanta where tip-off is slated for 6 p.m. CT.
