HUNTSVILLE | The 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-District Men's Basketball Teams have been announced, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville is represented by
JJ Kaplan and
Sam Orf who are members of the team from District 5.

This marks the second consecutive honor for both Kaplan and Orf.

District 5 is comprised of institutions from the Gulf South Conference, Sunshine State Conference, and Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and voting is conducted by the region's athletics communications professionals who are members of CoSIDA.

Kaplan is having a strong junior campaign, averaging 11.1 points per contest go along with a team-best 9.2 rebounds per game. He currently ranks second in the league in rebounding, and he owns six double-doubles while reaching double figures in scoring in 16 games.

Kaplan currently owns a 3.78 GPA in economics and finance.
Â
Orf is scoring 12.1 points per contest which is second for the Chargers, and he is also averaging 3.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. The junior has buried 54 3-pointers on the year, and he has reached double figures in 15 games including three games of more than 20 points.

Orf presently features a 3.83 GPA in sports and fitness management.

First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (if necessary) Academic All-America honorees will be announced in mid-March.

The Division II Academic All-America programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Divisions II Academic All-America programs.
