BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Gulf South Conference unveiled its 2020 men's indoor track & field season honorees on Friday afternoon, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville was represented by Zach Hancock as GSC Field Athlete of the Year.
 
Hancock has been the most prolific thrower in the South Region during the 2020 indoor season, as he ranks in the top 15 nationally and leads both the GSC and region in the weight throw and shot put.
 
The Madison, Alabama, native is currently fifth nationally in the shot put with an NCAA automatic mark of 18.53 meters, while rating 12th in the nation in the weight throw at 19.67 meters. Both marks are also program records.
 
Additionally, Hancock won both the shot put (17.75m) and the weight throw (18.67m) at the 2020 GSC Indoor Championships earlier this month.
 
Selected Chargers will head to the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Alabama, on March 13-14, while full squads open the outdoor season on March 7 at Madison Academy with the UAH Chargers Open.
