BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Gulf South Conference announced its first weekly men's outdoor track & field honorees of the 2020 campaign on Wednesday, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville swept all three awards as the Chargers were represented by Zach Hancock as GSC Field Athlete of the Week, Jay Day as GSC Track Athlete of the Week and Dorian Austin as GSC Freshman of the Week.
 
A native of Madison, Alabama, Hancock reset the program record in the discus – one he set previously – at the UAH Charger Invitational on Saturday with a first-place throw of 55.42 meters which also topped the NCAA provisional standard.
 
Hancock now ranks first nationally in the discus to start the week.
 
Day registered the GSC's fastest time in 5000 meters this season with a personal-best and first-place time of 14:48.68 on Saturday.
 
Austin owns the second-fastest time in the conference in 200 meters after earning third at the UAH Charger Invitational with a time of 22.06, while also placing fourth overall in 100 meters with a time of 10.90 to rank sixth in the conference.
 
Hancock looks ahead to Indoor Nationals in Birmingham, Alabama, this Friday and Saturday, while the rest of the Chargers continue the outdoor slate on March 20-21 in Memphis, Tennessee, for the Rhodes Invitational.
