HUNTSVILLE | Former University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball standout Josh Magette has been selected to the 2020 class of the Gulf South Conference Hall of Fame, as announced by the conference office on Thursday.

Magette will join five others in being enshrined this year, and he will become UAH's sixth representative in the Hall of Fame as he joins softball alums
Melanie Carter, Lane Davis, Stephanie Pinto, and Wendy Hurst Stewart in addition to former Director of Athletics Jim Harris.

This is the seventh class to enter the GSC Hall of Fame since its inception in 2014.

Magette had a decorated career as a Charger, helping guide the team to a pair of NCAA South Region championships in 2011 and 2012 and the program's first-ever GSC tournament title in 2012, and he was named the Most Outstanding Player at all three. In total, Magette was a three-time All-Gulf South Conference selection, and he was the 2008-09 East Division Freshman of the Year and the 2011-12 Co-Player of the Year.Â

The point guard's success was also recognized on a national level as he was a consensus All-American in 2011-12 by landing on each the NABC, Daktronics, Division II Bulletin, and Basketball Times All-America teams, and he was also a NABC All-American in 2010-11. Magette was also an NABC All-District selection in 2010-11 and 2011-12, and in addition to landing on the Daktronics All-South Region teams in 2010-11, he was also the organization's South Region Player of the Year in 2011-12.

Magette's name can be found in numerous places in the GSC men's basketball record book, including at the top of the career ledgers in both assists and steals as he collected 878 and 268, respectively, during his four seasons. Additionally, his 295 assists in 2011-12 represent the single-season record and the 272 he handed out in 2010-11 mark the third-best in a season by a conference player. In 2011-12, Magette also turned in the fifth-most steals in a season by recording 88.

Nationally, Magette's career assist number ranks sixth all-time in Division II history, and he ranks 10th in career steals.

In total, Magette finished his four-year tenure with 1,465 points on 480 field goals – numbers that both rank eighth at UAH – while totaling 604 rebounds to rank seventh among Chargers.

Magette was also strong in the classroom, landing on the GSC All-Academic Teams in both his sophomore and junior seasons while earning GSC Academic Honor Roll status in each of his four seasons.

Since graduating from UAH, Magette has played professionally both in Europe and stateside including stints with the NBA's Atlanta Hawks and Orlando Magic, appearing in 26 games at the sport's top level. In a terrific G-League career that has spanned portions of five seasons, he has racked up 1,902 assists which ranks second all-time among G-League players while averaging 14.2 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.Â

Other inductees in this year's class include West Alabama's Malcom Butler, Valdosta State's Morgan Johnson Faulk, Mississippi College's Larry Myricks, North Alabama's Josh Willingham, and Delta State's Dr. Kent Wyatt.
