BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Gulf South Conference announced its first weekly men's and women's track & field honorees of 2021 on Wednesday, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville was represented by Zach Hancock as GSC Men's Field Athlete of the Week and Zakiria Holifield as GSC Women's Freshman of the Week.
 
This is Hancock's 10th career GSC Field Athlete of the Week award, while Holifield collects her first weekly GSC honor.
 
A native of Madison, Alabama, Hancock posted a pair of NCAA provisional marks at the UAB Vulcan Invitational on Saturday as he finished first overall in the shot put at 17.11 meters and the weight throw at 19.19 meters. He is now ranked fifth nationally in the shot put and eighth in the weight throw.
 
Holifield opened up her collegiate career with two, top 12 finishes at the UAB Vulcan Invitational, including a sixth-place finish in the 200 meter with a time of 25.14. She additionally garnered 11th in the 60 meter with a time of 7.86. 
 
Her time in the 200 meter is the fastest in the GSC so far while her 60-meter time is second in the league.
 
UAH continues the 2021 indoor season this Sunday with the KMS Invitational in Birmingham, Alabama.
