Hancock and Holifield Garner GSC Indoor Season Awards

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Gulf South Conference announced its individual awards for the 2021 indoor campaign, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville was represented by Zach Hancock as GSC Men's Field Athlete of the Year and Zakiria Holifield as GSC Women's Freshman of the Year.
 
This is the second year in a row Hancock has been named GSC Field Athlete of the Year, while Holifield notches her field season award from the GSC.
 
A native of Madison, Alabama, Hancock qualified for the shot put at the 2021 NCAA Division II Indoor Championships where he finished sixth overall at a season-best 17.68 meters.
 
This season, Hancock led the GSC in both the shot put at 17.68 meters and the weight throw at 19.19 meters. His season-best toss of 19.19 meters in the weight throw was also a national mark, ending the 2021 indoor season with a rank of 17th in Division II in the event.
 
Holifield had a strong freshman indoor campaign in 2021, as she garnered All-South Region honors in both  the 200 meter and as a member of UAH's 400 meter relay team.
 
Her season-fastest time of 25.10 in the 200 meter set at the KMS Invitational on Jan. 24 was second-fastest in the GSC this season. She generated a time of 25.44 at the 2021 GSC Indoor Championships to garner second in the event as well.
 
Hancock, Holifield and the rest of the UAH track & field teams look ahead to the start of the 2021 outdoor campaign next Friday and Saturday at the Montevallo Falcon Invite.
