Chargers Open 2022 Campaign at Vanderbilt Commodore Challenge

NASHVILLE, Tenn. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's and women's track & field teams opened the 2022 indoor campaign at the Vanderbilt Commodore Challenge on Friday and Saturday, as the Chargers combined for six NCAA provisional marks.
 
Notable Performances
-Wilson McClain won the 60-meter hurdles with a first-place time of 8.12, which breaks the NCAA provisional time for the event.
-Michael Gizzi had a stellar opening to his collegiate career with a first-place time of 21.51 in 200 meters, which ties the program record and breaks the NCAA provisional mark as well.
-Zach Hancock opened the campaign with a pair of top-four marks as he was second in the shot put at 17.10 meters and fourth in the weight throw at 18.48 meters. He topped the NCAA provisional mark in both events.
-Two Chargers broke the program record in the 3000-meter race with Jay Day clocking in at 8:18.04 for fourth and Jacob Bishop finishing the race in 18:21.32 for sixth. Day's time of 8:18.04 also bests the national mark.
-Harold Lacroix garnered first place overall in the 5000-meter race with a time of 14:39.80.
-Krystalynn Oatman registered an NCAA provisional time in 60 meters with a seventh-place time of 7.67. She also notched a time of 7.66 in prelims to qualify for the finals.
