BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Gulf South Conference announced its weekly men's basketball award winners on Tuesday, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville was represented by
Chaney Johnson as GSC Player of the Week.

This is the second straight week Johnson has been named the GSC Player of the Week.

A native of Alabaster, Alabama, Johnson led the Chargers to two regional victories this past weekend over Saint Leo and Tampa to open the home schedule, as he generated 19.5 points per game, 5.5 rebounds per game and 3.5 assists per game.

He posted a weekend-high 22 points and seven rebounds while committing zero turnovers in Saturday's 80-71 win over Tampa. Johnson additionally excelled on free throws, going 14-for-16 on the weekend that includes a perfect 7-for-7 on Saturday.

Johnson is currently first overall in the GSC with 78 total points in the 2022-23 campaign, while rating sixth with 19.5 points per game. He is also amongst the top 10 in the GSC with 6.5 rebounds per contest.

The Chargers look ahead to the start of conference play at home on Saturday against Auburn Montgomery. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m. at Spragins Hall.
