BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Gulf South Conference announced its weekly men's basketball award winners, and The No. 24 University of Alabama in Huntsville was represented by
Chaney Johnson as GSC Player of the Week.

This is Johnson's first career GSC Player of the Week award.

A native of Alabaster, Alabama, Johnson led the Chargers at the 2022 Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic that featured some of the most premier teams in Division II, as he was named to the SCB Hall of Fame Classic Team following the event.

Johnson averaged a team-leading 19.5 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game over the matchups against No. 4 Nova Southeastern and No. 6 Lincoln Memorial, with the sophomore leading the way with 25 points and seven rebounds in the victory on Sunday over LMU.

UAH looks ahead to the 2022-23 home-opener this weekend as part of the Bill Penney Crossover Classic at Spragins Hall. The Chargers start the weekend on Friday at 7 p.m. against Saint Leo followed by a Saturday matchup at 2 p.m. against Tampa.
