UAH Finishes GSC Indoor Championships Second in Men's Competition, Fourth in Women's

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville track & field teams wrapped up competition at the 2022 Gulf South Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Wednesday afternoon at the Birmingham CrossPlex with the men's team finishing second and the women's squad ending in fourth.
 
The Chargers dominated the weight throw with the squad coming away with the top two spots in the event, including Zach Hancock in first place at 19.12 meters and Evans Wright in second at 17.51 meters.
 
Hancock earned GSC Indoor Championships Co-Most Outstanding Field Performer for his efforts over the past two days.
 
Michael Gizzi won a pair of GSC individual titles on Wednesday, as he placed first overall in the 60-meter dash at 6.77 before adding another first-place time of 21.49 in 200 meters. Both of his times are now GSC indoor championship records.
 
Gizzi was named GSC Most Outstanding Freshman Performer for his accomplishments.
 
Wilson McClain became a three-time GSC individual champion in 60-meter hurdles with a first-place time of 7.90. His time is now a record for the GSC indoor championships and ties UAH's program record.
 
Willie Campbell is now a Second Team All-GSC honoree with a second-place performance in the triple jump at 13.99 meters.
 
Thomas Jordan led the Chargers in the heptathlon with 4491 points for second place, followed by Trey McFarland in third at 4317 points. Jordan became a Second Team All-GSC awardee with his performance.
 
Cameron Clark recorded his second podium appearance at the GSC indoor championships with a third-place finish in the high jump at 1.93 meters.
 
On the women's side, Ronni VanZant highlighted the Chargers by putting herself on the podium with a third-place clocking of 9.09 in 60-meter hurdles.
